©2006 Go-essays® All Rights Reserved Political Science Writing Political Science is a course of study which places a great emphasis on literature and composition. Based on the premise that the proper public, governmental and philosophical leadership of the people will emerge from the confluence of multiple ideas and perspectives, Political Science requires a student to be able to comprehend and critique the writing of others. This means that your success in this discipline will depend on your ability to interpret the literature of some of history’s most important political thinkers, such as Socrates, Marx and Machiavelli. You will employ effective critical reading of such political theorists in order to inform your own writing. You may be asked to write in any number of capacities as a Political Science student, using the theoretical frameworks of historically important political doctrines in order to conduct historical research; to articulate a reaction to a particular political theory or ideal; to state and defend a position; or to draw comparisons and contrasts between varying ideologies. Regardless of the task of the writing assignment, your ability to draw the central ideas from the text at the basis of your work will be the primary determinant of your success. The prevailing goal of Political Science writing will be to isolate these central ideas, to define them and to clearly communicate your understanding or position on said ideas. Generally, a political science writing assignment will offer you the chance to lead a discussion on the topic at hand according to your personal reaction to a common theoretical concept. In order to do this, you will need to sensibly integrate your own analysis with textually derived support. Your writing should reflect a solid comprehension of a political concept’s reason, relevance and implications while also showing an ability to independently organize, evaluate and draw abstractions upon such concepts.
